Do you remember having when Halloween was fun?
Okay. For some adults, it still is.
It’s the one night a year you can unleash your inner superhero, movie star, or wild animal, and no one bats eye.
As I’m watching my kids get their costumes ready, I’m reminded that, as a kid, you didn’t just put on a costume; you became your biggest dreams. It wasn't about fitting in—it was about embodying your dreams—no limits, no fear—even if it was just for one night.
But somewhere between childhood and adulthood, for some of us, life has become a never-ending costume party.
We’ve stopped trying on our dreams and have started showing up as carefully curated versions of ourselves every day, squeezing into masks of “what we should be.”
Here’s a little secret: living your life in costume is exhausting. Faking it doesn’t lead to making it—it burns you out. And somewhere in the hustle of balancing all of the different roles you take on, the real you gets lost.
But it didn’t start out this way.
As kids, dreaming was our job. We were told to use our imaginations. Go outside and play. Dream about “what you want to be when you grow up.”
But then come the awkward teenage years, and—bam!—we learned that survival meant blending in. Not standing out. And we start hiding the magic that makes us us.
And by the time we’re adults? We’ve got more costumes than a Halloween Spirit store.
But here’s the truth: showing up in costume every day doesn’t keep us safe. It keeps us small. That endless happy-face, going-through-the-motions act doesn’t serve us.
And the price?
Misery. Exhaustion. Burnout. A life that feels like a never-ending performance instead of one you actually love.
This Halloween, it’s time to #unlockyourITfactor and rekindle the creativity and passion you had as a kid. Instead of dressing up and playing make believe, it’s time to embrace the real you: your quirks, dreams, weirdness and all—and finding the joy of living fully. Boldly. Authentically.
I’m talking about rediscovering your real superpowers, not some half-hearted adult version where you’re allowed to be yourself on weekends and Halloween.
Let’s bring that unapologetic, no-limits magic back to life.
Wear what you want. (As a Certified Stylist, I give you official permission. Not like you need it.) Speak your mind. Stop chasing someone else’s idea of “perfect.”
Because life is too short for costume parties. As someone who almost burned herself out to death, take my word for it.
The world is waiting to see the real, unstoppable, authentically powerful you. Here’s to throwing off the masks and letting your real superpowers shine this Halloween.
You are Bootiful. And you are worth it!
